Bright Scholars is a fantastic small non-profit run by two young Cambodian women. They work to find sponsors for at risk girls in the capital city. These girls have lost one or both parents to HIV and generally have to forgo an education to help support the family in the absence of parents.
With a sponsor, they are able to stay in school as the sponsorship fee makes up for lost income as well as covering any schooling fees.
These two women are fierce warriors for the disadvantaged girls in their city. They keep up with over 130 students, checking on them and their families, making sure the girls go to school, and fighting for their safety and their rights in the direst of situations. They have fought for young girls to keep their homes when relatives tried to take them away, and for their physical safety when parents died and young girls were left along to fend for their safety against the men in the neighborhood.
